Saint Anne and the Immaculate Conception
This year, the feast of the Immaculate Conception is celebrated on December 9 for the traditional feast day of Dec. 8th falls on a Sunday of Advent.
It also important to note that the "immaculate conception" belongs not to Mary's chaste conceiving of Christ but to her mother, St. Anne. The dogma of the Immaculate Conception states that for the Virgin Mary to conceive of Christ, she herself has to be free of original sin, which according to the church, every human has.
Saint Anne comes into picture here for her conception of the Virgin Mary is rendered to be free from the blemish of sin by God's graces.
The dogma of the Immaculate Conception likens the Virgin Mary to a clean and pure vessel worthy enough to carry the Son of God.
